Relative Sea Level Changes and Morphotectonic Implications Triggered by the Samos Earthquake of 30th October 2020

On 30th October 2020, the eastern Aegean Sea was shaken by a Mw = 7.0 earthquake. The epicenter located near northern coasts of Samos island. This tectonic event produced an uplift whole island as well several cases infrastructure damage, while small tsunami followed mainshock. Underwater and coastal geological, geomorphological, biological observations measurements were performed at entire coast revealing complex character for uplift. At northwestern part island, maximum vertical displacements +35 ± 5 cm recorded tip, Agios Isidoros. Conversely, southeastern known its subsidence through submerged archaeological remains former sea level standstills. 2020 underwater survey unveiled uplifted but still drowned indicators. displacement south ranges between +23 +8 suggesting gradual fading towards east. crucial value tidal notches, markers co-seismic events, validated from outcome this study. response zone to earthquake provides basis understanding tectonics area.
